On May 18, the Belgian Club organized "Family Day" at the The Yacht &
Tennis Club in Lauderdale Isles. Our host were Jed Thompson and his wife
Thalia, and Thalia's parents visiting from Belgium.
The menu consisted of Flemish stew ("stoverij") and fries - carefully
prepared by our hosts - Ceasar salad and, of course, Belgian beers. To
top off the meal, Rick Napurski sent us Belgian-made waffle mix for
dessert, which was tested by our chef Jed: "The waffles are fantastic,
just like in Belgium" he said. Also, Jeanine Bailey brought in some
delicious and welcomed little fruit tartlettes.
Everyone had a great time, with the kids swimming in the pool or
canoeing, sliding down the tube, or just hanging out, while the
grown-ups chitchatted along. We also had the chance to meet Marc and
Mona's beautiful granddaughter Brianna, a little Belgian indeed, with
her big blue eyes.
Special thanks to Jed and Thalia for taking such good care of us. To
Rick, for providing us with the waffle mix to bake delightful Liege
waffles and giving us a taste of home and to our members for always
being there and supporting our cause.
